Celebrating the life of
Christian R. Sheffield
September 21, 1956 - December 24, 2025
Christian Richard Sheffield (“Blue”), age 69, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, surrounded by his loving wife and children, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on September 21, 1956, Christian was the son of the late Henry Stephens Sheffield and Dorothy Sheffield-White. A lifelong resident of the Savannah area, he dedicated 47 years of faithful service to the Savannah Port, where he was a proud member of ILA Local 1475. His strong work ethic, loyalty, and commitment earned him the respect of coworkers and friends throughout his long career.
Christian was married to Sharon Sheffield in January of 1999, and together they shared many loving years. He was a devoted father to James Sheffield, Audra Sheffield, and Mary Sheffield, always placing family at the center of his life.
He is also survived by his siblings: Christopher Sheffield (“Izzy”), Kerstan Sheffield (“Bear”), Carol Howard, and Scott Sheffield, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
Christian found his greatest joy in simple pleasures—spending time with family, being out on the boat, and playing a good game of spades. Known affectionately as “Blue,” he will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart, and unwavering love for those closest to him.
His legacy of hard work, devotion to family, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew and loved him.
I am saddened to hear of Christian's passing. Our crew, including his brother Chris, had great times growing up in Savannah in the 70's rooting for the Dawgs, Notre Dame and creating mischief along the way. Christian had a one of a kind personality and he was a solid, honest and strong man. My heart and good wishes to out to the family.

I am so sorry to hear that Blue passed. He always had a joke or some wise advice to pass on to me at work. He was always there and available to help a fellow Union brother or sister out. My heart hurts for his family and friends. He was a man of great humility and integrity. He will be missed dearly.

Our prayers are with you all. Blue was a great person and a wonderful friend to me. He was there for me when I was in need more than once. One time a couple of years ago I was on my way to work one morning from Tybee and realized once I was downtown that the Rock and Roll marathon had everything blocked off so I cut through a neighborhood by lathrope and while at a stop sign ran out of gas. Blue called to check on me and see where I was and if I was OK. I told him what happened and he didn't hesitate one second to come and rescue me. Once he got there he got me close to the gas station where I could fill up my can with gas and drove me back to my truck because it was pouring down rain and i had just had to walk against the marathon runner traffic in the rain from the gas station and was soaking wet. After all that the police had blocked off the entire neighborhood and we both ended up stuck...he never complained once and just said "I got you brother!". This story is just one example of the kind heart he had and I thought I should share it here. I will miss you Blue, may your soul rest in peace in heaven in the good graces of God. Thank you for everything!!!

Deepest condolences to the entire family. Blue was certainly one of a kind. He made my job and days at work brighter without a doubt. A man that was always a pleasure to see, work with and talk to. His constant great attitude and smile were contagious. His eagerness to help anyone was always a shining light and it was always bright. You will be missed with that void felt for years to come. Rest easy my friend, until we meet again.

My deepest condolences to the family. I've always said there have been no better CWC's, "chiefs on a boat" than Blue, George Howard, and a few of the other high-seniority guys. We could all learn a thing or two from them. I always enjoyed working with Blue. He treated people fairly and always got the job done. I had the privilege of working with all three brothers, and it was always a pleasure. Blue will truly be missed.
